Macau visitor arrivals reach 30mln, 22 days earlier than in 2025

Macau’s number of visitor arrivals reached 30 million as of 11am on Friday (September 11), a milestone achieved 22 days earlier than in 2025, according to a Friday update from the city’s Public Security Police. The police – responsible for handling the city’s immigration checkpoints – said the city’s visitor volume has shown “stable growth”, benefiting from the Chinese central government’s visa policies and the “summer peak” travel season. For full-year 2025, Macau received an aggregate of nearly 40.07 million visitor arrivals, up 14.7 percent year-on-year. The start of that year saw the implementation of mainland exit-visa easing measures for residents of Zhuhai, the city neighbouring Macau in Guangdong province. In Friday’s update, the Macau police also noted that the city received an aggregate of approximately 28.95 million visitor arrivals in the first eight months of this year, or a daily average of just above 119,000 arrivals, representing a circa 8-percent year-on-year increase. The top feeder market for Macau visitors – mainland China – accounted for 21.54 million visitor arrivals in the January to August period, up 10 percent year-on-year. The second-largest source market, Hong Kong, supplied 4.87 million visitors in the first eight months of this year, down 1.8 percent year-on-year. The tally of visitors from international markets, i.e., outside the Greater China region, reached 1.76 million in the period, a 3.4-percent increase from a year earlier. South Korea (340,000), the Philippines (330,000) and Thailand (140,000) were the top three international visitor source markets for the city during January to August, according to Friday’s announcement. The latest Macau police update indicated that the city’s August visitor arrivals totalled 4.46 million, up 5.7 percent from the same month last year, according to GGRAsia’s review of historical data from the city’s Statistics and Census Service. Official August visitor arrival figures are due to be released later this month.
