A tragic accident occurred on Saturday, August 15, at the Ameristar Casino Hotel located in Blue Hawk, Colorado. Police were notified about an accident involving an infant at the property and rushed to the scene. However, they were too late. As the circumstances regarding the infant’s death remain unclear, authorities have pledged to conduct a thorough investigation. Authorities Rushed to the Scene A recent Black Hawk Police Department (BHPD) report reveals that authorities received a signal about an incident involving an infant at an Ameristar Casino Resort hotel room. Policemen rushed to the scene, along with members from the Black Hawk Fire Department and Gilpin County Ambulance Authority. However, their efforts were in vain. When help arrived, medical personnel rendered emergency aid to a three-month-old, who was immediately rushed to the hospital. Despite this valiant attempt, the child was pronounced deceased. The exact cause of death remains undisclosed, as do the circumstances surrounding the incident. It is also unclear where exactly in the hotel the accident took place. Requesting assistance from outside investigative agencies provides additional investigative resources and expertise. BHPD statement The Black Hawk Police Department has launched an official investigation into the matter, aided by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Together, these authorities should be able to determine the causes behind the incident and identify potential culprits. Any individual responsible for this tragic death could face up to 24 years in prison. Similar Cases Have Happened Before Unfortunately, this is not the first case of a casino-related child death in recent years. In 2024, a North Carolina gambler was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for leaving her two children alone in a parked car for hours in scorching weather, which led to their passing. The mother pleaded guilty to just one second-degree murder count and accepted responsibility for her actions. In 2025, a similar accident saw two children freeze to death at the parking garage of a casino in Detroit, Michigan. The mother explained that due to homelessness, they had no other place to seek shelter. Their five children spent the night in the vehicle, which unfortunately offered little protection against the freezing temperatures outside. Unfortunately, children remain one of the most vulnerable groups to gambling-related harm. While few accidents result in death, these past cases have shown that negligence can take its toll. Each of these tragedies should serve as a lesson to prevent future fatalities and make casinos safer for everybody, even those not directly involved.
