Spain’s gambling regulator, the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ), moves ahead with safer gambling rules launching nationwide deposit monitoring system and a new Player Portal for consumers. The measures have widened oversight of the activities of individual operators and created a unified framework for tracking expenses, promoting transparency and creating protective mechanisms for gamers . The initiative has also increased pressure on the licensed operators in view of the fact that many of them have voiced their grievances about unclear technical implementation processes and inadequate pace of implementation. By means of the new joined deposit limit rules all deposits of the players made with various licensed gambling operators will be accumulated, automated and controlled together. Once the amount breached the limit the player will face the blocks across all gambling accounts regardless of the operator. DGOJ is now finalizing the testing phase of the joint deposit system and all licensed online gambling operators in Spain are to complete their integration before the enactment of Royal Decree 520/2026 on March 25th 2027. The default limits will be defined as €700 per day, €1750 per week and €3300 in the span of 4 weeks and applied together with the limits established previously by each operator. Participants are entitled to change or take away collective deposit limits via a special formulation which includes supplementary details regarding gambling hazards. Whenever a limit is changed or removed, it will be in effect only after 3 working days. With respect to increasing limits, there is an upper cap on number of limit increase applications which is limited to one every three months. The regulator has set up a technical platform that is capable of processing deposits in real-time. The regulator has launched its new Player Portal aimed at providing consumers with necessary information regarding deposits as well as on betting activity. Users of the new portal will be able not only to see their deposits, stakes, wins and losses but also the entire history of their operation as well as statistics. Moreover, this platform also enables users to be notified regarding spending and gambling activities performed, set limits on the amount of deposits made or even download reports on gaming activity for an entire tax year.
