The Powerball game has once again failed to elect a jackpot winner after no one managed to match all six winning numbers for the Saturday drawing. That drawing, however, was anything but uneventful, since it awarded five- and six-figure sums to some thirty players. Thirty Players Won Tier-Three Sums The Powerball jackpot stood at $236 million at the time of the Saturday drawing. A hypothetical winner then would have had the opportunity to either pick the annuity option for the full sum or the one-time lump sum payment of $100.2 million. This was notably the first time in this Powerball cycle where the lump sum option reached a nine-figure size. While the prize was definitely tempting, players could not match all six numbers required to win it, allowing it to continue ramping up. For reference, the numbers drawn on September 12 were 14, 16, 23, 58, and 69, plus the red Powerball 3. The Power Play multiplier, meanwhile, was 2x. In addition to no one winning the jackpot, the September 12 drawing also lacked Match 5 winners, meaning that nobody won a seven-figure sum. At the same time, multiple players matched four white numbers and the red Powerball. For all 21 of them, this meant a $50,000 payout, while the remaining 9 had the Power Play feature active and took home $100,000 each. Since no one won the Powerball top prize, it has now reached $251 million ahead of the Monday (September 14) drawing. Should anyone manage to match all six numbers required to win, they would also be able to pick a one-time lump sum payment of $106.6 million, rather than the annuity for the full sum. The Cash Option Is Now Over $100M For reference, the Powerball jackpot’s cash option exceeded the $100 million mark very recently, marking a significant threshold. Now, even players who go with the one-time lump sum payment (like most winners do) would be in for a life-changing seven-figure payout if they win the jackpot. Earlier this month, a player in California matched the 5 numbers for a Powerball drawing to secure what would normally be a prize of between $1 and $2 million. However, due to the fact that California bases the payouts on the number of tickets sold, rather than fixed sums, that player won $185,595. At the end of August, on the other hand, the very first Match 5 win in the UK happened.
