The recent Powerball drawing had players competing for a $119 million jackpot, and although no one won this mouth-watering prize, two players came really close, settling for seven-figure payouts instead. In the meantime, the top prize has continued to grow, reaching $131 million for the next drawing. Lucky Players Win Two Prizes of $1M The Saturday Powerball jackpot was the first one to exceed the $100 million mark for this cycle. Standing at some $119 million with a cash option of $51.7 million, the prize was effectively a life-changing payout. Unfortunately, no one managed to nail the winning combination required to take the jackpot home. For reference, the winning white numbers for the Saturday, August 29, drawing were 18, 56, 62, 65, and 67. The red Powerball was 18 and the Power Play multiplier was 2x. As mentioned, no one won the game’s top prize, but two players matched all five winning numbers, securing themselves Match 5 payouts. Since none of these two players had the Power Play feature active, however, they will take home $1 million each, instead of the $2 million offered by Power Play Match 5 tickets. For reference, the winners were ticket-holders in Georgia and California. The payout for the Californian player is likely to vary due to the state’s unique way of calculating lottery prizes. In the meantime, nine players matched four white numbers plus the red Powerball. Of these, three had Power Play active and will take home $100,000 each, while six did not and will take home $50,000 each instead. The Powerball Jackpot Continues to Grow Since the Powerball jackpot remained unclaimed, it has continued to grow. As of the time of this writing, the game’s top prize is standing at $131 million. The next drawing is set to take place later today, providing players with another shot at this mouth-watering payout. A hypothetical winner would be able to either pick the annuitized option for the full sum or the one-time lump sum payout of $56.8 million. The previous Powerball jackpot landed only a few weeks ago when a player in Illinois took home a life-changing prize of $1.04 billion. The win came shortly after the jackpot hit the $1 billion mark and was notably the second-largest lottery prize to be won in Illinois. A few drawings later, a player in Florida won a $1 million Match 5 prize from the game. The drawing before the Saturday one, on the other hand, had several winners of third-tier prizes. These included five players who won $50,000 each, as well as three who took home $100,000 each, thanks to Power Play and the 2x multiplier.
