Polymarket has long argued that its products can hardly be qualified as gambling, but despite this, the company has shown a strong commitment to treating and assisting consumers who suffer from problem-gambling-like conditions. The company has now teamed up with Birches Health to help provide mental health resources for traders who experience compulsive behavior, specifically linked to their activity on the platform. Polymarket is also investing in its so-called Trust and Safety team that will help to intervene in cases where traders may be letting their habits get away from them, relying on early intervention to catch the issue early. Educational Resources, Self-Exclusion and More to Help Users Polymarket now allows traders to exclude themselves for a period of a minimum of 30 days to a lifetime. Users in the United States may also turn to various tools through the Trust & Safety Hub, including daily, weekly, or monthly deposit limits across all available payment methods supported by the company. Setting a lower limit is done instantly, but raising the existing limit may come with a “cool-down period,” which the platform will use to advise against excessiveness, and is a play from the responsible gambling book. The move comes at a time when the company is facing mounting pressure. “People should be able to set their own limits, step away on their own terms, and know what the rules are. That is what launched today, and it is the floor, not the ceiling. We’re excited to continue to build out from here,” commented Malea Otranto, global head of trust and safety at Polymarket. The partnership with Birches Health is a strong indication that the company is looking out to burnish its responsible gambling credentials, even though it denies that its products are a form of gambling. Polymarket Teams with an Expert in Administering Help in Cases of Compulsive Behavior Birches Health is already specialized in dealing with compulsive gambling behaviors and offers its services across 50 states, including clinical assessments, individualized recovery plans, and ongoing treatment. Polymarket also helps to assist players in self-diagnosis by developing various educational materials, including a quick four-question self-check questionnaire to help users determine if they need further help and assistance. The safeguards are currently directed at the United States, and there is no mention of European jurisdictions. Polymarket is facing pushback in Spain, France, and the Netherlands. The company has only recently filed a complaint in The Hague seeking to overturn the ban imposed on it by the Dutch Gambling Authority.
