Australian sports betting operator PointsBet Holdings Limited has published a new trading update forecasting a double-digit decrease in revenue for the first half of 2027. The company attributed the expected decline to its stronger compliance measures and its sportsbook strategy, which led to some short-term volatility. PointsBet Expects Its Revenue to Decrease In a H1 FY27 trading update published on October 13, PointsBet announced that it expects its group revenue for the H1 FY27 period (the period from April 1, 2026, to September 30, 2026) to reach AUD 113 million ($78.9 million). PointsBet acknowledged that its projected figure would represent a decline of roughly 16% relative to PointsBet’s group revenue in the prior year period (the period from April 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025. For reference, PointsBet’s group revenue for H1 2026 was roughly AUD 135 million ($94.2 million). In addition to that, PointsBet added that it expects its normalized EBITDA loss for H1 FY27 to be in the range of AUD 6 million and AUD 8 million ($4.2-5.6 million). PointsBet Justified Its Projections PointsBet provided details as to why it expects this double-digit decline, saying that it is attributable to the company’s Australian business. The company cited two major reasons, the first of which was the ongoing strengthening of its compliance standards and proactive approach. A sustained trend of double-digit turnover and revenue declines vs PCP throughout H1 from our highest value client cohort can be attributed to proactive compliance actions. We believe these have been important decisions to make in the context of an increasingly complex regulatory environment in Australia. PointsBet statement The second purported reason for the decline was PointsBet’s deliberate choice to accelerate its growth in mass market sports actives, which, according to the company, can lead to short-term volatility in net win margins. The company elaborated that the consistent gains in mass market sports actives, turnover, and structural net win margin vs PCP were offset by negative variance in actual Net Win margin throughout the H1 2027 period caused by adverse results across the AFL and other sports. The company added that its full H1 FY27 report will be published on October 30, 2026.
