Over half the 36 luxury hotels at Macau casino resorts flag they are full for at least 5 nights of October Golden Week

Over 20 luxury hotels in Macau – all housed within casino resort complexes – appear to have sold out their rooms for at least five nights of the upcoming National Day holiday period, also known as the October Golden Week. For residents of the Chinese mainland the break covers seven days this time, i.e., October 1 to October 7 inclusive. The snapshot of consumer demand for rooms during that period is based on GGRAsia checks of the official booking engines of those hotels. The research covered 36 luxury hotel brands that are represented within properties promoted by the six Macau gaming operators, and are mostly in the Cotai district (pictured). As of Monday, nine out of the 36 hotel brands had actually sold out for all seven nights of the upcoming holiday. Although GGRAsia focused on the standard room category accommodating two people, some of the hotels surveyed are suite-only properties. This year, China’s State Council has designated October 1 to October 7 as the National Day break period. This holiday period is preceded by the lunar calendar-based Mid-Autumn Festival, a three-day holiday designated on the mainland as running from September 25 to September 27, inclusive. Venues indicating no rooms for any of the nights of the October National Day holiday period included: Grand Lisboa on Macau peninsula, as well as the Karl Lagerfeld, and Palazzo Versace Macau. The latter two hotels are at Cotai resort complex Grand Lisboa Palace. Grand Lisboa and Grand Lisboa Palace are operated by SJM Holdings Ltd. Also full for all the nights of the National Day holidays were: Hotel Okura Macau, The Ritz-Carlton, Macau, Raffles at Galaxy Macau and Capella at Galaxy Macau. Those four properties are at Cotai casino resort complex Galaxy Macau, promoted by Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd. Paiza Lofts at The Parisian, and Paiza Grand at Londoner – Cotai luxury accommodation promoted by Sands China Ltd at respectively The Parisian Macao and The Londoner Macao – also appear to have sold out for all of the nights during the seven-day holiday. A total of 21 of the 36 surveyed hotel brands was sold out for at least five nights. The venues include: the Grand Lisboa Palace self-branded hotel in Cotai, promoted by SJM Holdings; the hotel at MGM Macau, on Macau peninsula, and MGM Cotai accommodation branded respectively as M Tower, Emerald Tower and Skylofts. MGM Macau and MGM Cotai are run by MGM China Holdings Ltd. Additionally flagging no space for at least five nights were: Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace, both promoted by Wynn Macau Ltd. Also in that situation were: Galaxy Hotel, Banyan Tree Macau, and JW Marriott Hotel Macau, all located at Galaxy Entertainment’s resort complex Galaxy Macau. Londoner Court and The Grand Suites at Four Seasons, respectively in Cotai and promoted by Sands China, were additionally indicating they were full for at least five nights. The rates of the still-available Cotai hotel rooms indicated a pricing peak on October 4; a Sunday, and the midpoint of October Golden Week this time. Most of the guest rooms or suites that were still available to accommodate two adults, were priced starting at over MOP4,000 (US$496), up to circa MOP15,000, excluding taxes and other service charges. GGRAsia nonetheless observed that for some of the luxury hotel rooms still available for the tail end of the National Day holiday period (i.e., October 6 to October 7), their offered nightly rates indicated a double-digit percent decline versus a year ago. Examples of these accommodation options included: MGM Macau Grand Twin rooms; MGM Cotai’s Emerald Double and Skylofts King units; and Premier King rooms at respectively Nüwa and Morpheus within City of Dreams Macau, run by Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd. The examples also included: Deluxe City King rooms at Galaxy Hotel; and accommodation in the Louis Suite category at The Londoner Hotel.
