The charitable arm of Philippine casino complex Newport World Resorts has committed PHP678 million (US$10.7 million) to fund the construction of new facilities for the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA). The funding from Newport World Resorts Foundation Inc covers two projects: a PHP379-million leadership and training facility at the PNPA in Silang, Cavite province; and a PHP299-million office building at the PNP headquarters in Quezon City, Metro Manila. The announcement was made by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor), the country’s gaming regulator. Pagcor chairman and chief executive, Alejandro Tengco, attended the signing of a memorandum of agreement for the PNPA project and the groundbreaking ceremonies for the two facilities. The four-storey Lakan Leadership Hall at the PNPA will feature conference and function rooms, a simulation room, training and lecture facilities, and temporary accommodation for visiting lecturers and professors. The new PNP office building will provide modern workspaces and facilities to support personnel development, training, wellness and operational readiness programmes. Speaking at the PNPA ceremony, Mr Tengco said the projects demonstrated how the regulated gaming industry could contribute to public institutions. “More than an infrastructure investment, this is an investment in people, particularly in the future leaders of our police service,” he stated. Nilo Thaddeus Rodriguez, chairman and president of Newport World Resorts Foundation, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting public institutions. “The Foundation will continue to support initiatives that provide essential resources and facilities for those dedicated to public service,” he said. Newport World Resorts is a casino and leisure complex located next to Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport. It is operated by Travellers International Hotel Group Inc, part of local conglomerate Alliance Global Group.
