Casino operator Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd says it has organised 16 community outreach activities during the Mid-Autumn Festival period, benefitting approximately 650 people in Macau. That included senior citizens, members of low-income families, young people, and students with special needs, per a recent press release. The initiatives involved input from more than 260 Melco Resorts employees, their families and community volunteers, who contributed a combined 730 hours of service, the firm said. The activities were organised under the company’s “Simple Acts of Kindness” programme, with the participation of several local community organisations. One of the initiatives brought together nearly 170 participants, including Melco Resort employees and their families, senior citizens and people with special needs, to create handmade sunflower bouquets and handwritten messages for distribution within the community. Other activities included festive pastry-making workshops for elderly residents, home visits to low-income and single-parent families, and social gatherings for senior citizens. The programme additionally included charity mooncake fundraising activities to support local non-governmental organisations. Akiko Takahashi, Melco Resorts’ executive vice president and chief of staff to the chairman and chief executive, said the initiatives reflected the company’s commitment to the local community. “Through Simple Acts of Kindness and Teaching Children Values, we hope to continue to foster deeper connections within our community and ensure that everyone feels the warmth and joy of the festive season,” she stated. The “Teaching Children Values” programme encourages employees to involve their children and other family members in volunteering activities, promoting intergenerational participation in community service. Melco Resorts said the Mid-Autumn initiatives were organised in collaboration with 10 local organisations, including Oxfam, the Salvation Army, the Women’s General Association of Macau and the Macao Gaming Practitioners Volunteers Association.
