Megaworld targets 12,000 hotel rooms by 2032, inclusive of Manila casino property

Property developer Megaworld Corp, part of Philippine conglomerate Alliance Global Group Inc, says it is accelerating the expansion of its hospitality business, targeting a portfolio of nearly 12,000 hotel rooms by 2032. The expansion encompasses Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside, a hotel linked to the group’s new casino resort being developed in the Philippine capital, Manila, according to a Wednesday press release. As part of the plan, Megaworld has established Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts, bringing its hotel portfolio under two groups: Megaworld Hotels & Resorts and Megaworld Global Hospitality. The latter will oversee Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside, described by Megaworld as its largest hotel property, as well as new hotels in Palawan and three existing properties in Iloilo. The 1,530-room Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside – formerly known as Grand Westside Hotel – is within Megaworld’s Westside City township in Parañaque, and is due to open under the Mövenpick brand before the end of 2026. The two-tower hotel is connected via a sky bridge to the Westside Resort casino complex (pictured in a rendering). The Westside Resort project is being developed through a partnership between Travellers International Hotel Group Inc, also a unit of Alliance Global, and Philippine-listed Suntrust Resort Holdings Inc. Travellers International, which runs the Newport World Resorts casino and leisure complex, saw attributable net income that “nearly doubled year-on-year” in the first half of 2026, to PHP568 million (US$9.2 million). Megaworld also said in Wednesday’s announcement that it planned new hotel developments in destinations including Palawan and Ilocos Norte, alongside further expansion in “major tourism and business hubs” across the Philippines. The portfolio will include the group’s own hotel brands as well as internationally-branded properties. Megaworld president and chief executive, Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso, said the group’s expansion of hospitality facilities was intended to help make the Philippine tourism industry “more vibrant and attractive, especially to foreign visitors”. Alliance Global president and CEO, Kevin Tan, said tourism was “one of the most powerful engines of sustainable economic growth,” adding that the group’s expanding hotel portfolio was intended to help unlock “the immense tourism potential of the Philippines”. Megaworld said Socrates Alvaro would serve as managing director of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, while Anna Vergara would head Megaworld Global Hospitality. Ms Vergara has more than 32 years of experience with Marriott International, per the announcement. Megaworld’s hospitality business “emerged as the company’s fastest-growing recurring income segment” in the first half of 2026, per the update. The segment recorded revenue of PHP3.1 billion in the first half of 2026, up 11 percent year-on-year.
