Maryland Casino Revenue Takes a Dip in August

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency has published a report concerning the performance of the state’s casino operators in August 2026. As it turns out, the total gaming revenue in the state took a dip that month. Maryland Casino Gaming Is Experiencing Some Setbacks According to the agency’s report, the state’s six casinos reported $160 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR) for the period in question. Compared to August 2025 the GGR figure was $10.3 million lower, which represents a decrease of 6.4%. For reference, this marks the fourth month in a row where Maryland’s casino GGR has been experiencing a decrease, suggesting a broader trend. For reference, the state’s GGR figures for May, June and July experienced decreases of 3.7%, 2.4%, and 4.7%, respectively. The trend is further highlighted by the year-to-date figures, which show that the state’s casino revenue since the start of the year is standing at roughly $1.28 billion, down 2.5% year-on-year. It is possible that the slight but persistent dip might be caused by the unstable economic conditions and shifts in consumers’ approach to gambling. The emergence of new verticals, such as prediction markets, could also be a factor in the declining GGR. Two Casinos Reported GGR Increases In any case, two casinos ditched the trend, reporting positive GGR figures for the YTD period. These included Ocean Downs Casino, which experienced a 3.8% increase in GGR to $67.5 million, and Rocky Gap Casino Resort, the GGR of which increased 2.1% to $36.2 million. Despite the revenue dips, however, MGN National Harbor remained at the top in terms of total revenue with $535.9 million in GGR for the year-to-date period. This figure is equivalent to a decrease of 3.4%. Live! Casino & Hotel came in second with YTD GGR of $466 million, down 3% year-on-year. The remaining two properties include Horseshoe Casino Baltimore and Hollywood Casino Perryville, whose YTD GGR figures decreased by 1.9% and 1.5%, respectively, to $117 million and $36.2 million. In other news, the Maryland Lottery recently published details about the financial contributions of its state’s broader gaming and betting industry in FY 2026. According to that report, operators contributed $1.637 billion to various programs during the twelve-month period ended June 30, 2026.
