Patrick Dumont, the recently appointed CEO of casino giant Las Vegas Sands (LVS), shared his vision of the company’s future. He stressed that while international growth remained a priority, the operator would not expand into the prediction market space. Instead, Las Vegas Sands will prioritize promising jurisdictions like Macau and focus on refining its core business proposition. The Operator Aims to Leverage AI Technology Speaking for Bloomberg TV, Dumont noted that LVS was content to focus on its land-based casino business and had no interest in exploring verticals like prediction markets. This stance marks a stark departure from other casino operators such as PENN Entertainment, which have invested significantly in diversifying their offerings and pursuing cross-selling opportunities between their land-based and digital arms. Dumont was adamant that the rising popularity of prediction markets did not affect this position, as LVS remains first and foremost a land-based casino company. However, the implementation of AI technology is something that the operator is actively exploring. Dumont believes the technology could refine the customer experience and help maintain the company’s leadership position. According to Dumont, AI developments can transform certain aspects of the business and unlock new efficiencies. While these efforts are in their early stages, LVS is already seeing improvements in business intelligence, customer interactions, and promotional offers. However, Dumont stressed that the human element remains a core pillar of LVS’ services, as automation cannot replace genuine care for the customers. Asian Expansion Is Continuing as Planned Despite LVS’ reluctance to branch out to iGaming and prediction markets, the company has achieved some notable progress. Macau remains a very promising market and the target for significant investments for the company. The Venetian Macao is set to undergo an extensive renovation, bringing it in line with the company’s updated standards and making it more attractive for premium customers. Other properties in Macau like the Londoner have already seen extensive upgrades and these investments are already paying dividends. Meanwhile, the company has agreed to invest roughly $3.5 billion in non-gaming initiatives as part of Macau’s broader push toward diversification. LVS also secured its 10-year license extension, solidifying its presence in the region. Our non-gaming investments here… will create a lot of value for shareholders, create new experiences that create repeat visitation and bring more visitors. Patrick Dumont, Las Vegas Sands CEO Elsewhere in Asia, LVS is also doubling down on Singapore, investing a hefty $8 billion in its Marina Bay Sands property. Such initiatives have historically delivered strong returns for the company, somewhat muting ongoing analyst skepticism. While it is true that rising reinvestment demands could affect profits, revenue continues to increase and growth has not slowed down.
