Hip-Hop Producer Mally Mall Sent to Prison for Violating Release Terms

Las Vegas-based hip-hop producer Jamal Rashid, who performs as Mally Mall, has been ordered to return to federal prison after admitting to a series of violations of his supervised release. Mally Mall Receives 17-Month Sentence in Las Vegas Court At a hearing in Las Vegas on September 17, US District Judge Gloria Navarro sentenced him to 17 months in prison. The case involved numerous violations that Rashid engaged in while on federal supervision following his conviction for a crime, as reported by KSNV News 3. Rashid pled guilty to five violations in a deal with federal prosecutors. They included trying to bribe a witness, failing a drug test, and hiding a room in his Las Vegas home from probation officers. He also acknowledged lying to authorities about a cellphone and making a phone recording without authorization. Two other charges were dismissed as part of the deal. The latest case came from Rashid‘s original conviction in a case involving an escort business prosecutors said was a front for prostitution. He pled guilty in 2019 and was sentenced in 2021 to 33 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release. He has been under supervision since July 14, 2023. His parole was set to expire on September 17, 2026, the same day as his next court hearing. Prosecutors have previously said Rashid ran the prostitution operation from 2002 to 2014. The federal investigation found the operation involved women who were transported across state lines and advertized through online services. Federal authorities said Rashid controlled the women through rules, threats, and manipulation. Some victims were also encouraged to get tattoos associated with him and led to believe he could help their entertainment careers, prosecutors said. Judge Questions Mally Mall’s Conduct as Producer Returns to Prison However, the allegations in the latest proceeding involve violations of supervised release, not a new sex-trafficking conviction. Rashid’s attorney, Jack Buchanan, said the new violations did not involve a return to the conduct that was the basis of the original case after the hearing. Rashid has accepted responsibility for the violations, and the new sentence will end without an additional term of supervised release, he said. At the hearing, Judge Navarro questioned whether Rashid had indeed changed his behavior. She had previously expressed concerns about the original plea deal and in 2021 questioned whether it was enough to reflect the seriousness of his conduct. The producer has also attracted the interest of Angela Williams, who was named as a victim in the original prosecution. She said Rashid was using tactics from his prior conduct in dealing with her while on supervised release. As a producer, Rashid has reached multi-platinum status and worked with a number of big names in the music industry. His credits include collaborations with artists like Drake, Justin Bieber, Tyga and Wiz Khalifa. Rashid is headed back to jail after a previous attempt to limit his supervised release failed. His legal team argued that lifting the restrictions would ease his ability to manage his professional commitments and travel. Navarro denied that request in 2025, noting the length of Rashid’s involvement in the prostitution operation. The new ruling means Rashid will spend another term in federal prison for violations committed while he was under court supervision.
