The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office has issued a new press release in which it detailed the arrest of four suspects caught at the site of an illicit gambling venue in North Carolina. County law enforcement executed a search warrant in the Flat Rock area after police were tipped off about the conduct of illegal gambling locally. A total of 15 gambling machines were seized at the venue, along with $9,872 in cash, which are attributed to the illicit business that had been taking place at the location. The four people identified by police in the arrest are Janet Taylor, Mary Braly, Sherry Waters, and Mary Moffitt, all of whom now face charges of manufacturing/selling slot machines, operating video gaming machines, and operating/possessing slot machines. The raid was executed by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Advanced Criminal Enforcement Team in cooperation with federal agencies. As of the time of reporting, there was no further information shared by authorities concerning the arrest. Illegal gambling has proliferated in North Carolina, with fairly well-known locations hosting illegal gambling and setting up slot machine parlors. Currently, the state only allows slot gameplay at licensed operators, limited to tribal gaming casinos. However, private individuals have repeatedly broken the law, offering slot gameplay despite the risks of arrest and legal ramifications.
