Approximately 1,350 workers at Encore Boston Harbor have voted to organize a strike. The employees, who are members of Unite Here Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25, aim to secure better working conditions as their contract with Wynn Resorts expires on August 31. The strike could begin at any time after that date with no prior warning. Staff Have Asked Visitors Not to Interfere with a Potential Strike According to a recent Boston Herald report, casino workers are asking for respect, fair compensation, and improved working conditions. Employees argue that their efforts have helped make Encore Boston Harbor one of Wynn Resorts’ most valuable properties. This statement appears true, as the venue generated nearly $847 million in revenue in 2025. The disgruntled workers argue that they should receive a fairer share of the profits. They point out that livable wages and good health insurance help bolster local communities, indirectly improving the area around the casino. While workers were initially reluctant to strike, they now feel that they are just making Wynn richer while their families suffer. If our members are on that sidewalk, we’re asking every worker and every family in this city to stand with them: while they’re out, stay out. Thomas G. Mari, Teamsters Local 25 president The two unions have asked visitors not to cross the picket line and not to spend their money inside the casino in the event of a potential strike. Workers remain adamant that they will continue to provide excellent service as long as Encore Boston Harbor agrees to a fair, mutually beneficial contract. Union Representation Is Growing Steadily The number of unionized staff at Encore Boston Harbor has gradually increased. In September 2025, 85 cage cashiers at the Everett casino voted almost unanimously to be represented by Teamsters Local 25. Employees were optimistic that the move would help them build a better future and make their voices heard. This development is not the first time Encore Boston Harbor staff have exercised their collective bargaining rights. In 2023, staff reached their current agreement with Wynn Resorts after similar strike threats. While that agreement did not answer all workers’ concerns, it did make significant strides in rectifying wage disparities and improving work conditions. With the situation now similar to that of three years ago, Wynn has to decide whether to honor the workers’ demands or risk a strike during one of its busiest seasons. Encore Boston Harbor representatives previously boasted about its status as one of the most attractive workplaces in Massachusetts’ hospitality industry. It remains to be seen whether this statement will hold.
