Divers to Look for Woman Who Went Missing near West Virginia Casino 19 Years Ago

A team of volunteer divers is going to look for Karen S. Adams, a woman who disappeared 19 years ago at the Mountaineer Casino Resort in New Cumberland. The divers will look for the missing woman in the Ohio River, in the hopes of recovering what they presume would be her remains, allowing investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or local police to look closer at the case once again. Adams Went Missing but Family Believes She Was a Victim The divers come from an organization called Chaos Divers, a volunteer outfit that has funded itself through social media ads, but in doing so has helped solve cold cases or assist law enforcement in collecting evidence and potentially cracking open cases. The woman, 54 at the time of disappearance, was reported missing in the early hours of Monday, March 12, 2007, with a manhunt failing to turn anything up. The FBI established that she had been driving a red or maroon 2005 Suzuki Forenza sedan after leaving the premises in the early hours and supposedly heading home. That was her last reported bearings, and nobody had seen her – or heard from her – since. Camera footage from surveillance showed her playing at the bingo room and then heading to the slot section of the casino, before leaving the premises on that fateful Morning at 3 am. The woman never made it home, and neither she nor her car have been recovered by investigators, with investigators now looking for her nearly two decades after the fact. No suspects have been named either, but her family believes that the woman was the victim of a crime and have maintained that she would not inflict self-harm, or disappear without a trace. There is hope for the family yet, as Chaos Divers are no sensation-seeking amateurs, having helped solve 23 cases, with the West Virginia one potentially the organization’s 24th. Chaos Divers Step in When Police Hit a Dead End Adams’ car could prove important in helping solve her disappearance, providing that it can be located, which would be the primary focus of Chaos Divers’ efforts. “Once we locate a vehicle we’re able to mark that with some pretty heavy-duty magnets, and then we dive down, figure out what it is. If it’s the vehicle that we are looking for, we call in law enforcement, and from there the process begins of removing the vehicle and the remains inside,” said Lindsay Bussick, of Chaos Divers in an interview for WTOV9. Bussick argues that even if they fail, the families are still thankful that someone has bothered to come in and look. Adams’ disappearance may yet be solved, but don’t hold your breath.
