888casino and a gambler are having a row over missing winnings; the gambler stipulates they are rightfully his own, while the casino attributes them to a technical accident. James Kotylak, 42, of Alberta, has spoken to Gaming America, arguing that he had won $930,000 playing at the casino, but the website has removed his winnings, explaining that it was due to a technical glitch. Canadian Player Wants His Jackpot Honored 888casino has a point, as winnings are usually invalidated when it comes to a game misfire. Interestingly, however, so far litigation against casinos over jackpot prizes attributed to defects in the machine have been won by either party – i.e., the casinos and players, as several landmark cases indicate. However, Kotylak already knows that the process can be long and hard, but he is not giving up all the same. He told the publication that he is already looking into the matter, trying to obtain documents and records of his gameplay as well as an independent adjudication service to help him resolve the case. Kotylak’s win occurred on a popular game, too: Pragmatic Play’s Floating Dragon – Year of the Snake on March 16, 2026, when he won multiple rounds and saw his balance shoot up. The casino sent him 15 congratulatory emails, reflecting how many times he had won. He attempted to cash out CAD 47,000 when 888casino blocked his cashout, and his woes began. He argues that the casino owed him CAD 1,267,003 in winnings, which were removed from his account, but while the casino refused and investigated the matter further, it did not prevent Kotylak from continuing to gamble. Independent Adjudication Services Refer Case to Courts In fact, argues the gambler, he was able to place 734 additional spins after the issue was identified. However, Kotylak’s jackpots are part of a larger jackpot error that took place across Evoke’s gambling brands, of which 888 is one, with 35,072 jackpots paid in error by the machines. 888casino has not refused independent review of the case to Kotylak, even advising him to turn to eCOGRA, which is one of the global organizations to weigh in on such disputes before things get to court. However, eCOGRA has stated that Canadian players are outside of its jurisdiction just yet. A separate intervention by the Gibraltar Gaming Division determined in May that there was a contractual enforceability issue that required to be reviewed by a judge. Kotylak is not ruling this out as an option, but admits that the legal fees are too much for him right now.
