bet365 opposes Brazil’s betting ban

bet365 has declared that Brazil’s enactment of the betting ban contravenes the Constitution of Brazil. According to bet365, customers of gambling services may become customers of illegal service providers. In a statement to The iGaming Europe, the company expressed disappointment and serious concerns regarding how this presidential decree would affect customers. Bet365 pointed out that the ban would undermine customer protection and responsible gaming practices in favor of illegal gambling providers. A bet365 spokesperson stated: bet365 is disappointed and deeply concerned for the ongoing welfare of our customers caused by the contents of the presidential decree banning online betting and gaming in Brazil. We are firmly of the view that this decree is unconstitutional and will only serve to push customers away from the regulated sector to the unsafe illegal black market online which pays no tax and has no standards on responsible gaming. bet365 supports the trade bodies with their legal challenges to this decision. We are committed to supporting our customers through this time of uncertainty. Bet365 received Brazilian gambling authorization in February 2025, as one of 21 online gambling companies authorized to operate in Brazil by the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets. The cost of each license was R$30 million and allowed them to work for 5 years. The 30-day date of termination of the validity of the licenses is established by the Brazilian Provisional Measure No. 1.394 that was publicized on October 1, 2025, and will not refund any of the money paid for the licenses. The law took effect immediately, it will be repealed unless passed by Congress within 120 days, excluding recesses of parliament. The legal actions combined with the congressional process will decide the fate of on-line gambling companies as bet365 to continue their services in Brazil.
