Federal gambling reform has been enacted in Australia with enhanced safeguards for addicts, harsher restrictions on wagering incentives, and the introduction of an opt-out scheme for advertising. Government passed the Interactive Gambling Amendment (Gambling Reform) Bill 2026 in the Parliament on August 19. The process of the bill’s enactment will be overseen by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). As per the reform legislation, the gambling operators are required to detect customers showing early signs of gambling addiction and stop providing them with betting options. Clear specifications will be introduced in the form of regulations. Adstop will be introduced as a part of the legislation an online gaming advertisement registration facility operating along with BetStop. Moreover, the operators will not be allowed to provide customers with their incentives if they have left BetStop less than three months ago. Additional regulations are enforced on the gambling providers forbidding them from doing any marketing about new customers within their first two weeks from the moment they registered. With the adoption of new reforms it is worth mentioning that the activity of ACMA is still being focused on companies operating gambling services without authorization.
