(Image: Cedar Crossing Casino & Entertainment Center) Los Angeles–based Peninsula Pacific Entertainment (P2E) announced that construction on its $275 million development was completed ahead of its scheduled New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31) opening. Final preparations are now underway, including the delivery of table games and interior finishing touches. Officials with Cedar Crossing Casino say the property will become a destination for entertainment, food and beverage, and even learning with the on-site STEM lab called the Compass Center. Cedar Rapids has been waiting for this for many years,” Cedar Crossing Casino General Manager Kim Pang said before the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission on Thursday (Oct. 15). Cedar Crossing Casino will feature approximately 700 slot machines, 22 live dealer table games, and a retail sportsbook. More Than a Casino P2E officials have committed to integrating with Cedar Rapids and being a dedicated community partner. To highlight that pledge, the casino has agreed to dedicate 8% of its annual gross gaming revenue (GGR) to charity, considerably higher than the 3% state mandate for gambling facilities. Cedar Crossing Casino will benefit the Linn County Gaming Association, the nonprofit that will receive and distribute the 8% gaming cut. It’s estimated that the Linn County Gaming Association will make more than $6 million a year in charitable donations. Cedar Crossing Casino’s STEM lab has its own entrance, allowing children and parents to bypass the gaming floor in accessing the Compass Center. The 5,000-square-foot educational facility is debuting with “Astronaut,” an immersive, interactive, and hands-on exhibition that explores the physical and mental challenges involved in space exploration. The Compass Center has not yet released ticket information. “Astronaut” will run through February 2027. The show is being presented by the Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust. As for dining, Cedar Crossing Casino partnered with Iowan Zach Johnson for a “relaxed” steakhouse. Called Clubhouse by Zach Johnson, the steakhouse is one of five bars and restaurants. Along with gaming, dining, and learning, Cedar Crossing Casino features The Event Center, a 1,500-seat concert venue that is already attracting big names like Old Dominion, Carlos Mencia, Trace Adkins, Carrot Top, and Tyler Henry. P2E Comeback Peninsula Pacific Entertainment sold most of its assets in 2022 to Churchill Downs for $2.75 billion. The deal gave Churchill Downs the Colonial Downs Racetrack in Virginia, plus six Rosie’s Gaming Emporium historical horse racing venues and The Rose Gaming Resort in Dumfries. Churchill Downs also acquired the del Lago Resort & Casino in Upstate New York and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Sioux City, Iowa. Along with Cedar Crossing Casino, P2E owns and operates Kansas Crossing Casino in Pittsburg and four casinos branded Revo in New Hampshire.
