UK gambling and betting duty figures rose by 19% year-on-year at €2.28bn across April-July 2026 as a result of the rise of Remote Gaming Duty. Figures from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) showed that UK gambling and betting duty collected reached €2.28bn across April-July 2026, a 19% increase compared to the same period the year before. Remote Gaming Duty made up about 50% of the total amount received. The duty is expected to have raised €444m in revenues between April and June, an increase of €79m (22%) year-on-year. The rate of remote gaming duty was raised from 21% to 40% in April. Total receipts for UK gambling and betting duty between April and June amounted to €1.16bn, representing an increase of 0.3% compared to the same period of 2025. The preliminary data do not indicate an immediate fall in tax receipts following the rise in remote gaming duty. Operators in the gambling sector warned that an increase in taxation will push customers to make use of unregulated gambling websites and cut down on the business of the regulated industry. The Betting and Gaming Council has started a campaign entitled “Back Our Betting Shops” in which it emphasizes the importance of betting shops. The UK government will face further industry pressure as it considers changes to gambling taxes in the Autumn Budget.
