Death Row Records founder Marion “Suge” Knight has made a bizarre new claim about the aftermath of Tupac Shakur’s death, alleging that the rapper’s cremated remains were rolled into marijuana cigarettes and smoked by friends and family. They Paid $1.2M for Tupac’s Cremation In an interview with TMZ published as the murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis gets underway, Tupac’s manager at the time claimed the alleged incident happened shortly after Tupac died in September 1996. Knight said the gathering took place in a Las Vegas hotel room rented by Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur. Knight, who was in the BMW with Tupac when the rapper was shot in Las Vegas, said Afeni wanted her son’s body cremated immediately. He alleged that he contacted a funeral home employee and offered him $1.2 million to carry out the cremation that same night after being told the facility was booked for several days. According to Knight, the funeral worker initially refused a $200,000 offer before accepting the larger payment. The former Death Row Records chief then claimed that Tupac’s remains were brought to the hotel room, where some of those present allegedly smoked them. Knight said he did not participate because he was on probation at the time and was concerned that testing positive for marijuana could violate the terms of his release. Investigation Moves On The claim has emerged as the long-running investigation into Tupac’s killing has entered a significant new phase. Tupac was shot on September 7, 1996, while riding in a BMW driven by Knight near the Las Vegas Strip. He passed away six days later, on September 13, at the age of 25. Davis, who has long been identified by investigators as a witness to the shooting, is the only person ever charged in connection with the rapper’s death. Prosecutors accuse him of orchestrating the killing. Knight has previously recounted the shooting and what followed next several times over the years, although his statements over the years have varied. He is still listed as a potential prosecution witness but has publicly indicated that he does not want to participate in the trial. The latest allegation has not been independently established, and details surrounding Tupac’s cremation and final arrangements remain the subject of competing accounts. Knight is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence for voluntary manslaughter after he intentionally ran over and killed a Compton businessman in 2015. He pleaded guilty to the charge.
