Ontario’s gaming regulator imposed the maximum available monetary penalty after finding that two cash-out offers presented to a player could not be honoured. Penalty totaling CA$200,000 has been imposed on Score Media Gaming, the operating company behind theScore Bet by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Penalty pertains to the alleged breach of the player protection standards of Ontario by the company that offered its customer cash-out options which were finally rejected. The case concerns a parlay bet of $1,000 made on March 14, 2025, related to NHL, NBA, and NCAA sports events. Had the bet been successful, the customer would have won over a million dollars. Once all but one bet was successful, theScore offered the customer an option to cash-out in the amount of $380,000. The customer accepted the offer; however, the cash-out did not take place due to verification issues. Four minutes later, theScore made another cash-out offer of around $100,000. The customer accepted the offer but it also was not accepted. In the end, the parlay was lost and therefore, the customer ended up with no money. It has been found that neither of the two cash-out offers given to the customer were legitimate. This case has been filed under Standard 4.07 of the Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming which stipulates that information that should be given to the players while they are playing games should be conveyed to them in a proper way without any misleading. Dr. Karin Schnarr, AGCO CEO and Registrar, said: Operators have a responsibility to ensure that the gaming opportunities they present are accurate and can be honoured as described. As the regulator, the AGCO is committed to holding operators accountable when they fail to uphold commitments made to players or otherwise mislead them about gaming opportunities. By imposing the maximum monetary penalty available, we are sending a clear message that these expectations are not optional. The AGCO previously penalized Northstar Gaming in August over alleged failures to comply with Ontario’s anti-money laundering requirements.
