Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), the Singapore casino complex run by Genting Singapore Ltd, and lifestyle-focused media platform Honeycombers have recognised local businesses and individuals for their contribution to sustainability. The fourth edition of the RWS x Honeycombers Sustainability Awards attracted more than 44,000 public votes across 33 categories, according to a recent press release. The awards ceremony brought together 160 nominees, winners, founders, judges and sustainability advocates. It was the first edition to include a live ceremony and an independent expert judging panel, with public voting and judging each accounting for 50 percent of the results. “The awards reflected how sustainability in Singapore is no longer a niche pursuit but a measure of how good businesses are built,” said the property’s promoter in the announcement. “With the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (ASME) as amplifying partner, the awards put the spotlight on five winners whose work shows how local brands… are making sustainable choices easier, while proving they make commercial sense too,” it added. N&N Eggs, Singapore’s largest egg farm, received the inaugural “RWS Grand Sustainability Award”, as well as the “Best Green Protein Brand” accolade. According to the update, the farm uses about 50 tonnes of chicken manure per day to produce biogas that helps power its operations, reducing waste matter by about 85 percent. Other winners highlighted by the organisers included Zero Waste SG, a charity promoting reduced food waste, reusable products and recycling, and JR Foods, which cut the use of plastic in its ready-meal packaging by more than 93 percent. Cloversoft was named “Best Green Home Cleaning Brand”, while former science teacher Kong Man Jing, co-founder of science communication platform Just Keep Thinking, was named “Sustainability Changemaker of the Year”. The release stated: “What links these five [awardees] is that each has made sustainability practical, visible and, crucially, viable. For ASME, as Singapore’s SMEs face rising expectations around sustainability, these brands offer a homegrown blueprint for doing well by doing good.” The organisers said they planned to develop the awards into a year-round platform that “connects sustainable businesses with the consumers, partners and communities that can help them scale their impact”. ASME’s president, Ang Yuit, was cited as saying: “Through our partnership with RWS and Honeycombers, ASME is excited to offer SMEs a platform that connects them with like-minded partners and opens clear doors for participation – proving that sustainable business practices can be both realistic and commercially rewarding.”
