The post NFL Taps Fanatics as First Official Sportsbook Since March Expirations appeared first on SportsHandle. Fanatics Sportsbook has emerged as the NFL’s choice to be an official sportsbook partner of the league after months of searching. In March, the NFL’s multiyear agreements with DraftKings, FanDuel, and Caesars Sportsbook ended, leaving the space vacant for more than four months. The partnership between Fanatics Sportsbook and the NFL is expected to be formalized in the coming days, with the regular season less than a month away. The agreement is non-exclusive, meaning the league remains free to add other operators to the category before or during the season. At this juncture, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that the NFL would renew its partnership with the industry’s leading names. Instead, the league moved first with upstart Fanatics, giving it a shot to see what it can do in primetime. What Does Fanatics Sportsbook Get in the New NFL Partnership? Under the deal, Fanatics Sportsbook gets promotional rights across NFL-controlled media platforms, can air promotions during game broadcasts, and gains hospitality access and premium fan experiences at major events like the Super Bowl and NFL Draft. Fanatics also secures official status for its online casino lineup, which is only available in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Needless to say, this partnership could help the company expand into more states in the coming years. The partnership between the NFL and Fanatics Sportsbook marks a huge milestone in the sports betting industry. The first partner in the reopened category is a brand that has made inroads by building a loyal customer base and a rewards system focused on sports merchandise and in-game experiences. Why Did the NFL’s Deal with DraftKings, FanDuel & Caesars Sportsbook Fall Through? DraftKings, FanDuel, and Caesars were the first sportsbooks to partner with the NFL back in 2021, when the inception of the league’s sportsbook sponsorship category began. The deal allowed those sportsbook operators to use NFL trademarks, integrate content with NFL media, and access the league’s official data. Over those five seasons, the three companies collectively paid more than $1 billion in fees. Here in 2026, the landscape has changed. The companies held talks to renew the contracts, but nothing was agreed to before the existing agreements expired. For the first time since the partnership began, an empty slot opened up for an official sportsbook sponsor. Of the three, only DraftKings and FanDuel are still pursuing a return. Caesars Sportsbook had long been expected to let its arrangement lapse and does not appear to be seeking a new deal. The absence of a sportsbook sponsor was particularly surprising, given how much money is wagered on football each season. In fact, the NFL generates tens of billions of dollars in annual handle, which is prime real estate for a sportsbook looking for brand and promo rights. Ongoing Talks, Challenges with Genius Sports Although Fanatics emerged as the first sponsorship partner, DraftKings and FanDuel both remain in ongoing discussions with the NFL to climb back aboard. Sources close to the discussions said the price increase for official streaming data from Genius Sports (the NFL’s exclusive data distributor) is the reason for the holdup. Genius Sports provides real-time stats, betting data, and low-latency video feeds that sportsbooks use for live betting. Without this framework, sportsbook operators cannot sponsor the NFL or its teams, and they are prohibited from advertising during any games. The NFL has a huge ownership stake in Genius Sports, with the new deal on exclusive data distribution going through the 2029 season. What Does Fanatics’ New Deal Mean for Future NFL-Sportsbook Partnerships? Fanatics Sportsbook shows that this roadblock can be navigated, giving hope to sportsbooks looking to partner with the NFL for the upcoming 2026 season. On the same token, it shows how big of a deal the data rights are in the industry. The NFL will keep making money on every day that ends in “Y,” but there are larger issues to acknowledge. If the NFL continues its partnership with Genius Sports past the 2029 season, sportsbooks need to get more creative as they head into future negotiations. For Fanatics Sportsbook, life just got a whole lot more glamorous. They’ll be at the best parties of the year, promoting their products, signing up new customers, and it seems like there’s no limit to where this success can take them. It still feels like a two-horse race in the sportsbook industry, but here comes Fanatics down the stretch.
