Netherlands renews Lotto BV monopoly licences

The KSA, Dutch Gambling Authority, has extended Lotto BV’s monopoly licenses for the next five years starting from January 1st 2027. Lotto BV’s current licenses are set to expire on December 31st 2026. As per the regulatory authority, Lotto BV requires to know about its eligibility for continuing with lotteries, instant lotteries and terrestrial sports betting, once the current licenses lapse. The new licenses will come into effect after the KSA receives a decision from the Administrative Court of the State Council on the legality of the gambling monopoly, which could affect Lotto BV’s monopoly position in the three markets mentioned. The KSA said in a statement: It is important in this regard that an uninterrupted legal supply of lottery games, instant lotteries, and land-based sports betting is guaranteed even after 31 December 2026. The new licenses are valid for five years and include new standards for the protection of players and children. Lotto BV is obliged to inform KSA of any changes in ownership or management. If the court decides to revoke the monopoly license, KSA will be forced to withdraw Lotto BV’s licenses.
