The NBA has instructed its authorised sportsbook partners to prohibit certain bets and restrict player prop parlays this season, following gambling-related scandals involving players Jontay Porter and Terry Rozier. According to a league memo shared with sportsbook partners, including companies such as DraftKings and FanDuel, some types of bets, that are considered to be problematic, are no longer permitted. For example, parlays that combine the same player’s under statistics cannot be offered anymore. In addition to this, there are some other restrictions on bets placed on players winning the opening tip, failing to miss a particular shot, and betting on players who are likely to play for fewer than 12 minutes. Other kinds of bets that provide higher payouts are also restricted. NBA executive vice president Scott Kaufman-Ross stated that there are problems with betting in this context and it is possible to avoid illegal gambling. This measure comes as a result of the actions in which the players were involved and had nothing to do with gambling. For instance, according to the report, Porter seemed to leave games early on purpose, while Rozier has been charged with numerous attempts to achieve success in placing bets but denies any wrongdoing. There are also plans for expanding measures aimed at ensuring integrity during the 2026-27 season. The league has also acknowledged challenges in enforcing restrictions across prediction markets, where it has no formal partnerships. Meanwhile, DraftKings and FanDuel have expressed support for working with the NBA to protect game integrity and maintain a regulated betting market.
