The MGM Resorts Foundation is continuing its charity program by committing more than $4.6 million to organizations and communities. These efforts, made possible by the contributions and engagement of MGM Resorts staff, will focus on areas where the company’s employees live. This approach ensures input from individuals familiar with local issues and allows these funds to go where they are most needed. Applying Charities Must Meet Strict Requirements This year’s funding will go to organizations throughout Nevada, Michigan, Ohio, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts, and the greater Washington, DC area. The 211 new grants aim to help organizations that directly assist individuals, families, and children. One of the main goals of this project is to provide aid in places that might otherwise struggle to secure assistance. Employee participation is at the heart of this program. MGM Resorts workers contribute to the foundation and also participate in Community Grant Councils, which review applications and decide which organizations will receive funding. This year, 87 employees participated in the review process, reviewing hundreds of applications from nonprofits active in their communities. It’s a model that puts our employees, and the communities they call home, at the heart of our giving. Maria Jose Gatti, MGM Resorts VP of Philanthropy The foundation has several strict requirements. Eligible organizations must be a nonprofit focused on helping the general public in areas where MGM employees live and work. The program does not include government agencies, public schools, private tuition-based schools, and political organizations. These funds are also not meant for medical research projects or athletic and recreational programs. MGM Resorts Staff Have a Direct Say Shoes That Fit, a nonprofit that provides new athletic shoes and other necessities to children from financially struggling families, is among the beneficiaries. The organization received support in five regions connected to MGM Resorts. These include Southern Nevada, Southern Mississippi, New Jersey, Westchester and Bronx counties, and Western Massachusetts. Gamers Outreach also received a substantial grant. The organization provides video game entertainment and support to children in hospitals, offering kids entertainment and support during their treatment. It was awarded grants in six regions, including Southern Nevada, Michigan, New Jersey, and Western Massachusetts. Gamers Outreach has more than 150 registered volunteers and has supported over 500 hospitals. These grants show how gambling companies are becoming increasingly involved with the communities supporting their properties. For MGM Resorts, the initiative helps spread its charitable funding across a broader footprint rather than focusing on a few high-profile organizations. This approach provides funding to charities that may be overlooked while giving employees a say in how this money gets spent.
