The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has announced that it will see Polymarket cease to offer its sports event contracts in the state by the end of the day on November 25, 2026. This marks a pivotal achievement for the regulator, which has been actively pushing against the platform, alleging that it was operating in violation of the Great Lakes State’s gambling laws. This claim has been further borne out by the court, after the regulator won a preliminary injunction against another platform, Kalshi, which has paved the way for the MGCB to keep pushing back against other companies. Coinbase already agreed to stop offering its sports event contract and did so on October 10, with Robinhood acquiescing even before that on September 9, and closing its trading on sports event contracts on October 9. “One by one, from Kalshi to Robinhood and Coinbase, and this latest agreement with Polymarket, we’re holding the national sports betting industry accountable to Michigan law,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said. “Alongside the MGCB, we’re protecting Michigan residents by ensuring gaming in our state occurs in licensed and regulated ways, and under the protections and safeguards afforded by the law,” Nessel continued. Polymarket US has tried to stop the state from applying its gaming laws but ultimately failed to argue its case, and will now comply with the outcome of several court decisions, including the Sixth Circuit decision, which upheld the lower court’s ruling.
