KSA launches player behavior analyzing model

An algorithm aimed at predicting the risk behavior of online casino gamblers based on their actual behaviour while gaming has been developed by the researchers from University of Amsterdam (UvA). The model was developed by Charles de Leau, a PhD candidate at University of Amsterdam, with the guidance of Professors Reinout Wiers, an expert in psychology, and Johan Bollen, an expert in computer science. The KSA provided some insights into the way algorithm operates, mentioning that it is a machine learning-based model which looks at behavioural factors of players like how much they bet and how frequently they do so, not forgetting to check their betting history. Ultimately, the KSA said: All forms of online gambling are included in this model,” the Dutch Gambling Authority stated. “In creating this model, a lot of inspiration was taken from the work of the Spanish gambling regulator, the DGOJ. In addition, the algorithm takes into account the possible winning or losing streaks of players and how they respond to these winning or losing trends. KSA explained that gaming operators can take advantage of the developments in order to enhance their duty of care, stressing, however, that the use of the algorithm “does not provide operators with any guarantees”, and that it should be regarded as “an extra part of the duty of care measures”.
