A Kent couple has won a $15 million prize by playing a $50 scratcher, and fetching them the massive win on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary Scratch-Off. The prize they won is the biggest win the game can deliver, and it is a fantastic way to celebrate the lottery’s continuous presence in Ohio. Lump Sum Always Trumps Annuity The players bought the ticket at the Circle K at 530 Chestnut St. in Ravenna, Ohio, and the win was confirmed on October 15, 2026, by the lottery. The couple had the option to choose either $600,000 per year for 25 years or opt for the $15-million lump-sum payment, which is precisely what they did. Even though the win is quite massive, the couple didn’t have an easy time believing their incredible stroke of good luck and had to take their time, grasping the reality of their massive, eight-figure win. “It said $600,000, and that’s when they started to believe that they had actually won,” but they did not reveal immediate plans about what they would do with the money. As to their winnings, they are taking home $7.5 million net, with a further 26.75% subtracted in tax withholdings, leaving their total at just about $5,493,750. While greatly reduced from the original prize, the takings are still a substantial windfall that the couple will find ways to enjoy. No more information about who the winners were was available or released by the Ohio Lottery. Ohio Lottery Wins Keep Dropping One After the Next Ohio allows lottery winners to remain anonymous, which is often the preferred option. Previously, a trust was able to claim a $1-million prize from a similar scratch-off game in the Buckeye State. The prize was ultimately claimed by Alan C. Triggs, Esq., on behalf of The Championship Trust. The trust went with the one-time cash payout of $500,000 rather than the annuitized option of $40K a year for 25 years. The prize was reduced to “just” $366,250 after all due withholdings, still not a bad payout.
