Kangwon Land Inc supports children with cancer through volunteer programme

South Korean casino operator Kangwon Land Inc has participated in a charity event supporting children undergoing cancer treatment and their families, as part of the company’s employee volunteering and community outreach initiatives. The two-day event in mid-October was organised by the Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation and brought together approximately 800 children with cancer, and their family members. The annual gathering, known as the “26th Angel’s Day Grand Festival”, aimed to provide emotional support and recreational activities for children undergoing prolonged medical treatment. According to a recent announcement from Kangwon Land Inc, the company’s employee volunteers prepared and distributed care packages to participating families and organised interactive activities for the children. These included decorating reusable cups and games using recycled paper cartons, with prizes awarded to participants. The initiative followed an agreement signed in April between Kangwon Land Inc and the Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation, under which the casino operator converts employees’ volunteer hours into financial donations through a matching-grant programme. The casino firm said it had donated KRW29.6 million (US$22,132) this year under the programme, corresponding to a total of 29,600 hours of volunteer work. Kangwon Land Inc operates Kangwon Land casino resort, the only casino in South Korea permitted to serve local residents. Kim Do-gyun, chief executive of Kangwon Land Inc, said the company was pleased to provide some enjoyment to children and families facing lengthy periods of medical treatment. He added that the company would continue developing mechanisms to encourage employees to participate in volunteering and charitable activities.
