Grand Lisboa Palace MICE venue now carbon neutral: SJM

Macau casino operator SJM Resorts Ltd says the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) venue at the group’s Grand Lisboa Palace resort has achieved what the company described as “sustained carbon neutrality”. SJM Resorts said the property was the “first integrated MICE venue in Greater China” to achieve that status through the use of carbon credits. It has also launched what it calls Macau’s first standardised “Zero-Carbon MICE Service”. SJM Resorts – the Macau operations unit of Hong Kong-listed casino firm SJM Holdings Ltd – stated the convention and exhibition venue had average annual greenhouse gas emissions of approximately 5,827 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2025 and 2026. Emissions for both years had been fully offset through carbon credits, and the venue had received carbon-neutrality certification, the company added. SJM Resorts managing director Daisy Ho Chiu Fung (pictured, left) said sustainability was “integral” to the casino operator’s business strategy. “Through our comprehensive Zero-Carbon MICE services, we aim to give our MICE clients the measurable, verifiable and disclosure-ready environmental data they need to meet their sustainability objectives, while further strengthening Macau’s reputation as Asia’s leading sustainable events destination,” she added. SJM Resorts also said it has officially launched what it called “Zero-Carbon MICE” services. It covers areas including sustainable event planning, venue setup and recycling, catering options, event-impact reporting and carbon-neutral event certification. The company also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Macau International Carbon Emission Exchange regarding cooperation on carbon neutrality.
