Entain to cut over 400 customer care jobs

Entain announced the plans of cutting 20% of its 2,000 customer care roles worldwide on September 16, which is over 400 customer care positions globally. This comes weeks after Entain reported better-than-expected profits in first-half and as the group faces higher UK gambling taxes. CEO Stella David said: The proposed changes ensure the business remains competitive, financially resilient, and well positioned for the future as our sector faces an increasingly challenging operating environment. This decision has not been made lightly, and our immediate priority is to support those of our colleagues who may be impacted through this transition. UK tax changes could add £100M to retail costs Entain has voiced dissatisfaction with the UK’s plans to amend its Machine Games Duty (MGD) tax, which is applicable to gaming machines in betting shops and various other venues. Reports say that Entain has issued a letter to the Prime Minister’s office, claiming that these changes could increase the yearly operating costs of its UK retail operations by around £100 million. The issue with MGD pertains solely to the retail gaming machines, making it completely distinct from the proposed cuts of 400 customer care jobs being consulted at present. 900 job cuts were announced in 2026 by Entain This is the second round of job cuts announced this year. Entain planned to cut over 500 positions on July. If the latest proposal is implemented in full, the company will have announced approximately 900 job reductions during 2026. The 400 job cuts affecting customer services are still in the proposal stage. The final count of jobs affected will only be made clear after the consultation process has occurred. It affects employees worldwide, meaning that employees based outside the UK will be bound by the law of the country in which they work. The company has stated that it will ensure that employees affected by the layoffs receive all appropriate help during the consultation process.
