DraftKings may be looking at as much as $57m in prediction market exchange fees generated during the NFL season alone, a new report by Jefferies suggests, factoring in the momentous rise of the vertical. DraftKings’s DKeX Poised to Reap Benefits of Prediction Market Bonanza The report comes at a time when the sector is facing strong pushback from regulators, and a debate is raging over the legality of prediction markets, specifically those offering sports events. Despite this, DraftKings has launched a platform of its own that supports such contracts, seeking to gain an early foothold in the sector and potentially avoid falling behind at a time when interest in the vertical is clearly expanding. And so, Jefferies analyst David Katz’s report suggests that the contract volume generated by DraftKings’ DKeX has reached $42 million, based on the games between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers alone. “Looking ahead, we believe this weekend has the potential to set new industry volume records, with the first full NFL Sunday of the season positioned to be one of the largest trading days in prediction market history,” Katz noted. The two games have ended up driving $106,000 in market fees for the platform, but this may only be a beginning, with the projected potential gains sitting at roughly up to $57 million. “Overall, we believe the analysis reinforces that exchange fees represent the more recurring and predictable revenue opportunity, while market-making economics are inherently more variable and dependent on spreads, inventory management, hedging, and event outcomes,” he noted, but cautioned that DraftKings is still just a minnow. DraftKings’ Prediction Market Credentials Recently Questioned DKeX has a long way to go to even come close to matching any of the sector leaders, including Kalshi and Polymarket. DraftKings recently argued that it is up and running in all states in the United States, drawing on the fact that it also runs DraftKings Prediction, another prediction market subsidiary, allowing the company to position itself firmly across the entirety of the United States. This particular claim has been met with unguarded skepticism, however, as prediction markets are not legally accepted in at least one state – Nevada.
