The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Buenos Aires has decided to block seven online betting platforms that were supposedly functioning illegally. The operation was run by the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Gambling (FEJA), which was under the supervision of Juan Rozas. Several complaints were made by the Argentine Chamber of Casinos, Bingos, and Related Gambling Halls and the Buenos Aires City Lottery (LOTBA). The FEJA stated that these betting platforms were deficient in the introduction of age restriction, user verification, identification and protection measures. The investigation was also undertaken by the Judicial Investigations Corps of the CABA Public Prosecutor’s Office. The legally questionable operations are punishable according to Article 301 bis of the Penal Code. FEJA targets influencer promotions In September, FEJA struck deals with 16 Argentine influencers prosecution of which was initiated by the CABA Public Prosecutor’s Office due to their promotion of unauthorized online casinos in Internet. According to these deals, the influencers are supposed to make an awareness video on dangers of unregulated online betting as well as the absence of protection for gamblers on illegal gambling sites. The campaign urges the audience to join LOTBA’s Responsible Gaming program and warns them not to promote or support illegal gambling platforms. The authorities also alerted people on the usefulness of the .bet.ar domain in checking the legitimacy of the respective gambling sites being operated in Argentina. The recent actions of law enforcement authorities demonstrate Buenos Aires’ intention to tackle illegal online gambling sites and their advertisement channels.
