The UK Gambling Commission announced that it has levied a fine against Holland Park Leisure Limited, a company that operates three Adult Gaming Centers in Leicester. According to the announcement, Holland Park Leisure’s venues breached the self-exclusion requirements mandated by the UKGC. Holland Park Leisure Violated the Self-Exclusion Rules In its official release, the UKGC emphasized that “all consumer-facing land-based gambling businesses must participate in a multi-operator self-exclusion scheme.” The regulatory body clarified that this is a measure designed to protect consumers who feel that their gambling is getting out of control and seek to self-exclude from one or more premises in their area. The UKGC emphasized that, despite being aware of this requirement, Holland Park Leisure did not immediately join a multi-operator self-exclusion scheme. The regulator noted that the operator did eventually join one, but only after it gaming license was suspended in October 2025. A significant aggravating factor was that Commission Officials had previously advised the Licensee of the non-compliance, it did not take remedial action at that time and it provided misleading information to the Commission. UKGC statement The Self-Exclusion Rules Are Not Optional As a result of the violation, the UKGC decided to impose a GBP 150,000 (roughly $202K) fine on the Adult Gaming Center company. In addition to that, Holland Park Leisure will be required to undergo a third-party audit of its policies, procedures and controls and implementation of these. The operator’s staff training and competency will also be scrutinized. John Pierce, the UKGC’s director of enforcement, commented on the matter, emphasizing the importance of self-exclusion schemes. He said that it is of crucial importance that all operators fully integrate with the scheme and make sure that their customers have access to self-exclusion. Every operator must ensure that they are fully participating in a recognised multi-operator self-exclusion scheme, that they have effective procedures to identify and prevent self-excluded customers from gambling in any of their premises, and that their staff are trained to manage self-exclusion and direct individuals to relevant support services. John Pierce, director of enforcement, UKGC Pierce added that these requirements are not optional, but rather a “fundamental license condition.” He warned that operators that fail to meet them “can expect regulatory action.” In other news, the UKGC just warned online gambling operators that some licensees do not meet existing ID verification requirements. The regulator said that this can cause potentially serious issues for customers when trying to cash out their funds.
