The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has officially launched its search for a new chief executive officer after the recent departure of Andrew Rhodes. As it turns out, the regulatory body is offering a salary of GBP 190,000 a year to a potential successor. Andrew Rhodes Joined the Commercial Sector In April this year, the UK confirmed the departure of Andrew Rhodes. Rhodes, who had been at the helm of the authority for almost 5 years, said that he has enjoyed his time with the gaming regulator. At the same time, he said that he leaves with confidence in the organization. After that, rumors suggested that Rhodes was preparing to join a commercial gaming company as a consultant. It was later revealed that the company in question was Hawkbridge, an international strategic advisory firm focused on the gambling sector. Rhodes departure forced the UKGC to search for a new CEO. The regulatory body has now confirmed details about the position. The UKGC Is on the Lookout for an Experienced Leader According to the UKGC, a future CEO would receive an annual salary of GBP 190,000. Per the advertisement on the government’s Civil Service Jobs website, the body confirmed that the new CEO will be based in Birmingham, where the UKGC’s headquarters is located. However, hybrid working arrangements were also highlighted. The UKGC noted that its ideal candidate is an experienced senior leader with a track record of managing complex organizations and driving change. The regulator added that knowledge of the UK gambling market is desirable. Candidates with industry experience are required to prove that they can be impartial when it comes to regulation. The new CEO’s job will be to lead the commission during what the UKGC called a significant period of change. Among other things, the candidate is expected to deliver its new anti-black market program. At the same time, the CEO will be responsible for overseeing the continued gaming reforms in the UK gaming sector. The CEO will also be responsible for maintaining the UKGC’s relationship with the government and delivering a return on HM Treasury’s three-year investment in the Illegal Markets program. People interested in this position can submit their applications by October 23. The UKGC Has Been Undergoing Changes In any case, the UKGC, just like the UK gambling sector itself, has been undergoing a period of significant change. Previously, the regulatory body also parted ways with executive director Tim Miller. Miller also opted to join the private sector and set up his own consultancy last month. Earlier this year, on the other hand, the UKGC advertised an open head of illegal markets position.
