The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has published its Industry Statistics annual report covering the fiscal year from April 2025 to March 2025. Despite the ongoing challenges in the UK, the report highlighted a slight increase in gross gaming yield (GGY). The Industry Statistics Illustrate How Gaming Evolved In its report, the UKGC stated that the customer-facing gambling industry in Great Britain generated GBP 17.5 billion ($23.4 billion) in GGY for the fiscal year, marking a 4.4% increase year-on-year. The GGY recorded by gaming operators excluding all reported lotteries reached GBP 13.2 billion ($17.6 billion), up 4.7% year-on-year. As of the end of the reporting period, there were 8,081 licensed gambling premises in the country, which equals an increase of 2%. Additionally, the UKGC reported that the total number of betting shops in Great Britain was 5,617, down 3.6% year-on-year. Further metrics show an increase in the UK’s remote casino, betting, and bingo (RCBB) sector GGY to GBP 8.3 billion ($11 billion), up 6.9% year-on-year. At the same time, the land-based sector’s GGY increased 1.1% to GBP 4.9 billion ($6.5 billion). For the final quarter of the year (the period January 2026 to March 2026), the total GGY increased to GBP 4.4 billion ($5.9 billion). Excluding all reported lotteries, the GGY figure stood at GBP 3.4 billion (4.5 billion). The total GGY for the RCBB sector, on the other hand, was GBP 2.2 billion ($2.9 billion), while the remote casino GGY reached GBP 1.5 billion ($2 billion). At the same time, land-based GGY stood at GBP 1.2 billion ($1.6 billion). The total retail betting GGY for Q4 was GBP 595 million ($795 million). According to the UKGC’s reports, The National Lottery contributed GBP 391 million ($522.1 million) to good causes in Q4. Other large society lotteries contributed an additional GBP 124 million ($165.6 million). The Market Shifts Are Complex, UKGC Says Ben Haden, the UKGC’s director of research and policy, commented on the FY 2025-2026 results, saying that the market shifts visible in the latest reports are complex and due to a variety of factors.
