Some refreshed Hotel Lisboa rooms open to guests from Tues, east wing closes for revamp Oct 8

A phased rollout to paying customers, of revamped guest rooms in the west wing of Macau’s Hotel Lisboa began on Tuesday (September 1). Several room types (example pictured above) and suites among the 427 refurbished units were available from that date. That is according to Ronald Chan, director of sales and marketing, Hotel Lisboa Macau, in response to an enquiry from GGRAsia. But the opposite east wing hotel tower – with its distinctive birdcage-like outer architecture – will be shut for revamp starting from October 8, with its rooms unavailable from that time, Mr Chan confirmed to GGRAsia. A Cantonese-cuisine restaurant inside that tower, Portas do Sol, will however remain in service during the work. The project team is targeting the east wing renovation to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2027, Mr Chan additionally noted to GGRAsia. The same month the east wing hotel tower will shut for work, the renovated Café Noite e Dia in the west wing is due to reopen, per a Friday press release from Hotel Lisboa. The hotel is controlled by Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau SA (STDM), the privately-held parent of Macau casino concessionaire SJM Holdings Ltd, and the latter company has gaming facilities within the Hotel Lisboa complex. At the time of its first-half results in late August, Hong Kong-listed SJM Holdings had said refurbishment of approximately 400 hotel rooms at Hotel Lisboa had been completed, subject to statutory government inspection and approval before the rooms became available. A second phase of the revamped Crystal Palace gaming area at Hotel Lisboa opened on August 10, “further expanding gaming capacity and customer choice,” the company also noted in its results update. A lobby area of the hotel has also been rejigged (pictured above ) in the west wing phase. West wing room types include a 43-square-metre (463-sq. feet) deluxe room with a king bed at MOP1,550 (US$192) on a weekday in the current month, excluding service charge and tourism tax, per GGRAsia’s checks of the official booking engine of the property. The priciest accommodation options in the Hotel Lisboa west wing are the themed “Nautical” suites and “Racing” suites (pictured above), each spanning 59 square metres and equipped with a king bed and beds for children. Each suite type costs MOP3,450 on weekday nights in the current month, excluding service charge and tourism tax. The refurbished rooms at Hotel Lisboa will “strengthen the accommodation offering” of SJM Holdings’ Macau-peninsula property portfolio, the firm’s interim results filing had stated. It also noted that Grand Lisboa Macau – SJM Holdings’ downtown flagship property opposite Hotel Lisboa – was due to see work on its “deluxe villas” and “mansions” project completed “ahead of the 2027 Lunar New Year”, which falls in early February.
