Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), the Singapore casino resort promoted by Genting Singapore Ltd, says its monetary and in-kind contributions in support of the “President’s Challenge” have exceeded SGD2 million (US$1.6 million). The tally includes more than SGD800,000 raised via the inaugural RWS Cares Festival, held at the resort on August 22 and 23, according to a recent announcement. The President’s Challenge is an annual charity campaign in Singapore, with beneficiary organisations selected by the President’s Office. This year, Resorts World Sentosa said it was supporting three President’s Challenge beneficiaries: the Autism Resource Centre (Singapore), also known as ARC; TomoWork; and MILK (Mainly I Love Kids) Fund. The press release said that more than 3,000 people took part in the RWS Cares Festival’s “Steps of Hope” walkathon, which was flagged off by Singapore’s President, Tharman Shanmugaratnam (pictured, left). Resorts World Sentosa chairman, Lim Kok Thay (pictured, right), presented a SGD818,688 donation to President Tharman as part of the event. Participants then completed a 1.4-kilometre walk through several areas of the resort, including Universal Studios Singapore, WEAVE, Singapore Oceanarium, and Adventure Cove Waterpark. The announcement cited Resorts World Sentosa chief executive, Lee Shi Ruh, as saying: “Drawing more than 3,000 participants, the inaugural RWS Cares Festival was more than a walk.” “The strong support for the festival reflects a shared commitment to giving back, and through our partnership with President’s Challenge, we are proud to turn that collective spirit into meaningful impact for those who need it most,” she added. The two-day festival also featured a Green Living Fair at Singapore Oceanarium’s Research and Learning Centre, with proceeds going directly to participating social-enterprise vendors. RWS Cares is the integrated resort’s corporate social responsibility and community engagement programme, with initiatives covering education, climate action and support for local enterprises.
