Reno Casinos Offer Resort Fee-Free Rooms Starting at $49 to Hawk Fire Evacuees

Reno casinos are stepping up to help the nearly 90,000 Nevadans forced from their homes by the Hawk Fire. (Image: Getty) The Hawk Fire began on Saturday (Aug. 22) and quickly spread to more than 23 square miles by Sunday across the Peavine Peak area of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Nevada’s principal national forest. Approximately 42,000 residents in a “GO NOW” zone have been ordered to evacuate, and an additional 45,000 people are in an adjacent evacuation warning zone. The Nevada wildfires have burned over 15,000 acres, and as of Sunday, fire officials reported 0% containment. “Please get out if you can right now,” Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said Sunday evening. “Over the next 12 hours, the fire is expected to continue to make moderate to high intensity runs in pockets of dense fuels.” Officials say the fire was “human-caused,” though they did not specify how that conclusion was reached or whether it was set intentionally. Plan to Stay Away Those ordered or encouraged to evacuate are being told to plan to be away for some time, as shifting and strengthening winds are expected to make the fire even more unpredictable. The Grand Sierra Resort, Nugget Casino Resort, J Resort, Silver Legacy, Eldorado, and Circus Circus in nearby Reno are aiding with discounted hotel rooms for evacuees. The Reno casinos have temporarily lifted their resort fees and are offering nightly rooms for $49 at the Nugget and $59 at the five other properties. As the Hawk Fire affects families and neighborhoods throughout our community, we want to make it a little easier for people who need to leave their homes to find a safe and affordable place to stay. We’re also incredibly grateful to the firefighters, first responders, and emergency personnel working around the clock to protect our region,” said Grand Sierra Resort General Manager Cheraz Ecker. Along with those displaced, the nightly room rates are being extended to first responders in need of lodging. To book a discounted room, use the code EVACUEE at Grand Sierra, EVAC26 at Nugget, and HAWK26 at J Resort. The Silver Legacy, Eldorado, and Circus Circus discount code is SCLOC26. The Grand Sierra is the most discounted, with the $59 rate also coming with no $42.95 nightly resort fee. Fire Origin State and federal officials believe the Hawk Fire began near the Hawk Meadow Trail in the master-planned Somersett community in northwest Reno. From there, the blaze spread north into the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, where it eventually climbed Peavine Peak. Peavine Peak, the highest point on Peavine Mountain, is 3.5 miles from the California border. Nearly 1,000 first responders have responded to the Hawk Fire. Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo (R) has declared a state of emergency for Washoe County and activated the Nevada National Guard to assist.
