Kiari Kendrell Cephus, an American rapper better known as “Offset,” is facing a default judgment in his legal dispute with MotorCity Casino Hotel. For reference, the prosecution claims that the rapper failed to repay a $100,000 credit line. MotorCity Says Offset Did Not Pay a $100K Debt Earlier this year, MotorCity launched a lawsuit against the rapper, insisting that he had failed to repay a $100,000 credit line. According to the allegations, the credit line was opened in 2024, when the rapper visited the casino to play. The prosecution claims that Offset had signed a casino marker tied to his checking account, which allowed the casino to withdraw the funds. When it tried to collect the money, however, the withdrawal failed due to insufficient funds. As a result, the casino’s lawsuit asserts that Offset violated his contract and Michigan’s bad check statute. For reference, the statute allows plaintiffs to seek double the unpaid marker plus legal fees. The lawsuit has now taken another turn as the defense failed to file a response. Offset Faces a Default Judgment In April, a representative of Offset said that the rapper and his team hope to resolve the matter. Despite that, no formal response was ever submitted by the defense. With Offset’s lawyers missing the deadline for a response, the court is now set to pass a default judgment. This means that the court will rule on MotorCity’s claims without taking the defense’s response into account. It should be noted that while the motion for a default judgment has been submitted, no final judgment has been entered yet. Offset could still potentially lift the default if he can prove that there was a good reason for missing the deadline and if he is able to present a credible legal defense. Not the First Time Offset Has Had Casino-Related Trouble In any case, Offset has had his fair share of casino trouble. He recently made headlines after a video showed him arguing with staff at a high-limit blackjack table at a casino in Paris. The dispute was focused on a seat that had been given to another player, despite Offset’s insistence that it was his. Previously, Offset got attacked outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. As it turned out, a group of suspects had tried to rob the rapper, but failed. Luckily, the rapper was only shot in the leg and was released from the hospital four days later. Previous rumors suggest that the rapper might have been experiencing certain gambling problems.
