Philippine casino resort Okada Manila says it has received the Forbes Travel Guide “Verified Responsible Hospitality” badge for a second consecutive year, recognising practices covering environmental sustainability, employee welfare and community engagement. The annual certification programme assesses properties against more than 100 standards. They cover matters including waste management, energy efficiency, resource conservation, community engagement, health security, and vendor selection. The Okada Manila complex – part of the Entertainment City zone in Manila – is controlled by Tiger Resort, Leisure and Entertainment Inc, a subsidiary of Japanese conglomerate Universal Entertainment Corp. The property’s promoter said its environmental initiatives include a sewage treatment plant that processes approximately 2,217 cubic metres of wastewater per day. The treated water is reused for irrigation across 9.3 hectares of the resort’s grounds, and in cooling towers supporting its air-conditioning systems. The integrated resort also runs a food-recovery initiative in partnership with Scholars of Sustenance Philippines, under which surplus food from selected buffet and banquet operations is redistributed to communities in need. As of July 2026, the programme had redirected and donated 1,614 kilograms of food, equivalent to 6,773 meals, according to the release. Okada Manila said it had also used 105,300 food containers made out of sugar cane material during the year, as alternatives to conventional plastic packaging. The complex also highlighted employee welfare initiatives. Its flu vaccination programme reached 2,664 employees in 2026. The resort additionally runs monthly sessions to support the health and well-being of staff. The initiatives form part of “Okada Green Heart”, the resort’s environmental, social and governance framework. It has six pillars, covering: waste management; energy efficiency; water conservation; talent and community; safety, security and welfare; and responsible gaming. The announcement cited Nobuki Sato, president and chief operating officer of Okada Manila, as saying that earning the Forbes Verified Responsible Hospitality badge for a second consecutive year shows “that responsible hospitality is not separate from luxury, but “an integral part” of Okada Manila’s offering.
