MGM China has opened MGM Shenzhen Prince Bay in the Prince Bay area of Shekou, Shenzhen, China, adding a 298-room property to its mainland hospitality portfolio. The hotel officially opened on September 10 and was developed by MGM Hospitality Group (Asia Pacific), a wholly owned hotel-management subsidiary of MGM China. Located in Nanshan District near the Shekou Cruise Home Port, the property gives MGM a presence at an important maritime gateway linking Shenzhen with destinations across the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and international markets. The company described the opening as a significant step in its wider development across the region. The hotel is owned by Yunnan Xiangfeng Industrial Group and operates under the MGM brand. Its launch brings MGM’s total number of MGM-branded hotels in the Greater Bay Area to three. MGM China Chairperson and Executive Director Pansy Ho said the project reflects the company’s continuing commitment to the mainland Chinese market. She said in a press release, “MGM’s arrival in Prince Bay represents more than the opening of a new hotel. It reflects our enduring commitment to the China market. For MGM, hospitality goes beyond accommodation. It is about creating meaningful connections between people and places, culture and lifestyle. By bringing together MGM’s century-long legacy of hospitality, international operating expertise, and distinctive cultural and entertainment DNA with Shenzhen’s spirit of openness and innovation and Prince Bay’s unique waterfront character, we hope to create an authentic local experience while establishing a premier waterfront lifestyle destination.” Yang Lirong, chairman of Yunnan Xiangfeng Industrial Group, said: “MGM is one of the world’s most recognized luxury hospitality brands, renowned for its operational excellence and strong international reputation. Together, we have created a landmark destination that combines the distinctive charm of a harborfront setting with world-class hospitality standards, further elevating Prince Bay’s business, tourism, and cultural offerings.” Hotel Brings MGM Design to Prince Bay GP Architects and LTW Designworks created the property around a “waterfront garden” concept. The design takes cues from the Prince Bay shoreline and its cruise-port history, while incorporating themes drawn from MGM cinema. The 298 guestrooms and suites all have ocean views, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the bay. The property also includes five dining venues: Yu Hoi Heen Chinese Restaurant, MEET PLUS Yunnan-Guizhou-Sichuan Restaurant, Festival All-Day Dining, The PURPLE Rooftop Sky Bar and the Lobby Lounge. More than 3,000 square meters of event space are available for meetings, celebrations and other functions. The facilities include a panoramic pre-function area, an outdoor terrace, multifunction rooms and VIP lounges. Guests can also use a fitness center and heated swimming pool overlooking the urban harbor. Architectural features include a lobby water installation, a sky-level art installation and a cantilevered tower crown designed to recall a cruise deck. The hotel’s design incorporates MGM’s “We Exist to Entertain Your Journey” brand mission while drawing on the waterfront character of its Shenzhen location. Greater Bay Area Network Connects With Macau The Shenzhen opening also expands MGM’s mainland hospitality network as the company seeks closer tourism links throughout the Greater Bay Area. MGM Hospitality Group President and Director Zhou Feng said the company has built a hotel customer base of 1.6 million members during its 19 years of operations in mainland China. The membership base consists mainly of consumers born in the 1980s and 1990s. Zhou said greater cooperation between MGM Hospitality Group and MGM China could help attract younger cultural-tourism visitors to Macau. He also said the mainland hotel network could help promote Macau’s cultural and arts offerings across the Greater Bay Area, while MGM Resorts International’s global network could contribute to international visitor growth. MGM China expanded its control of the mainland hospitality platform earlier this year. On June 30, the company acquired MGM Asia Pacific Limited from an indirectly wholly owned MGM Resorts unit for $20 million in cash. The business, previously known as Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality, was subsequently consolidated into MGM China. The platform had eight operating hotels and more than 12 active projects when MGM China completed the transaction. It generated RMB80.6 million ($11.9 million) in revenue in 2025, compared with RMB71.9 million ($10.6 million) in 2024. Its net loss increased from RMB4.2 million ($621,000) to RMB7.7 million ($1.1 million). Opening Event Highlights Macau-Shenzhen Collaboration MGM Shenzhen Prince Bay marked its launch with a gala dinner featuring chefs from the company’s operations in Shenzhen and Macau. Pan Sihui and Yang Dengquan, chefs from MGM COTAI’s Michelin-starred Aji and Five Foot Road restaurants, worked with Li Yongsheng, general manager of Yu Hoi Heen Chinese Restaurant at the new Shenzhen property. The collaboration produced a special menu intended to showcase the culinary work of the participating teams and highlight connections between Macau and Shenzhen. MGM said the event demonstrated cooperation across its dining portfolio while incorporating elements of cultural exchange between the two cities. The opening gives MGM China another mainland hospitality property in the Greater Bay Area and strengthens the company’s links between its Shenzhen operations, Macau business and broader regional network. The hotel’s proximity to the Shekou Cruise Home Port also places the property within a major transport gateway serving the area.
