Macau casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) fell 1.2 percent year-on-year in September, tallying MOP18.06 billion (US$2.23 billion), according to data released on Thursday by the city’s regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ). It was the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year GGR decline. The latest figure took GGR for the first nine months of 2026 to nearly MOP187.12 billion, a year-on-year improvement of 3.2 percent. Full third-quarter GGR was MOP60.21 billion, down 1.3 percent sequentially on second-quarter’s total of MOP61.03 billion. The latest result comes amid investment-sector caution about the trading outlook for Macau in the final quarter of this year and beyond. Credit and market research provider CreditSights Inc said in a Monday memo that it “does not rule out” the possibility of “tighter regulatory scrutiny remaining an overhang” for the Macau gaming sector, mainly by dampening sentiment in the VIP segment. Brokerage CLSA Ltd observed in a Tuesday note that “risks” regarding “consensus downward revision” of Macau-industry earnings had “escalated”. In mid-September, CLSA had already trimmed its 2027 and 2028 forecasts for Macau earnings. The International Monetary Fund mentioned in a report on Macau released on Tuesday that the VIP segment of Macau’s casino industry was expected to account for a relatively small share of overall gaming revenue over the medium term, despite some signs of recovery.
