Macau received an aggregate of nearly 751,000 visitor arrivals in the first four days of the ongoing Chinese-mainland holiday season commonly called ‘October Golden Week’. That is according to data published by Macau’s Public Security Police, the agency responsible for monitoring the city’s immigration checkpoints. As per preliminary data, the average daily arrivals stood at just above 187,747 in the October 1 to 4 period. The peak in the number of arrivals was logged on Sunday (October 4), at 210,325 visitors. Sunday’s tally represented a new record for single-day visitor arrivals since official statistics for the October Golden Week have been kept. A new record for single-day arrivals had first been set on Saturday, at 191,702, topping the prior-year record of 191,176. October Golden Week is a major festive break for Chinese-mainland consumers and a peak trading period for Macau’s casinos. The Chinese mainland is the main feeder market for Macau’s tourism sector. China’s State Council has designated this year’s holiday period on the mainland as running from October 1 to 7, encompassing China’s National Day on October 1. The police did not supply a breakdown on holiday-period visitors’ respective place of origin. However, the majority of tourists for the aggregate of the first four days entered Macau via either the Border Gate checkpoint (355,199 arrivals); the Hengqin checkpoint (163,189 arrivals); or the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (104,057 arrivals). Separate information provided by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) indicated that 467,348 of the visitors that entered the city during the first three days of the October Golden Week were from the mainland China. Another 51,423 visitors in the October 1 to 3 period came from Hong Kong, showed the MGTO data. This year’s October Golden Week holiday season is one day shorter than the same period in 2025. Last year, the break was from October 1 to 8, and Macau welcomed just above 1.14 million visitors, according to MGTO data.
