Kentucky Record Powerball Winner Arrested a Sixth Time in Little Over a Year

James Farthing could have turned his life around, scooping a record $167.3 million jackpot from the Powerball in April 2025. More than a year after the fact, he has been arrested once again. Farthing was discovered allegedly intoxicated and asleep behind the wheel of a running Mustang outside a Kentucky Walmart. Kentucky Record Powerball Winner in Trouble – Again Police responded to the venue at 2:57 am on Sunday, September 20, after receiving a call about an idling white Mustang with temporary tags at an intersection outside the shopping center. The responding police officers suspected that Farthing had been driving under the influence. Farthing told them that a woman had previously driven him to the location, but police established, upon reviewing security footage, that this was not true. The video showed no one getting out of his car at any point, and he was subsequently charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place and taken into custody. Farthing, who has had a remarkable opportunity at a second chance, has once again ended up on the wrong side of the law – with the latest incident marking his fifth arrest and sixth incident overall since he won the prize in April 2025. In the immediate wake of winning his jackpot, Farthing was arrested in Florida after an altercation with a casino patron, which led to the Kentucky man assaulting a police officer – a sheriff’s deputy – in the face. Since then, he has been arrested and allegedly involved in all sorts of unsavory business. Farthing Faces a Litany of Legal Troubles Farthing has faced charges on second-degree burglary, marijuana possession, and domestic violence, among others. He was also charged with first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault after a woman accused him of grasping her by the neck and stopping her breathing. Farthing has pleaded guilty in some instances – such as the assault of the police officer – and firmly maintained his innocence in other cases, including the incidents involving his strangulation. The latest incident is not the only instance where Farthing has been allegedly operating a vehicle in a careless manner. Prosecutors in Lexington allege that he was involved in a hit-and-run that took place in November 2025. At the time, Farthing is alleged to have driven at 100 mph before crashing into another vehicle and leaving without offering help.
