The North Carolina Education Lottery has awarded its first six-figure prize for the week. According to the lottery’s official announcement, the amazing sum went to a lucky winner in Greensboro. The Woman Took Home $72K According to the NC Education Lottery, its latest big winner is Sarah Caldwell, a Greensboro woman, who decided to try her luck on a $30 scratch-off ticket. The game of Caldwell’s choosing was the MAX-A-MILLION game, which, as its title suggests, features prizes of up to $1 million. While Caldwell did not claim one of the top prizes, she secured a second-tier win of $100,000. The lottery revealed that the lucky woman bought the winning ticket from Aly USA on South Regional Road in Greensboro. Lottery officials said that Caldwell visited the lottery HQ on Monday and claimed her prize. After taxes, she took home $72,018. At launch, the MAX-A-MILLION game featured 25 top prizes of $1 million, as well as 10 second-tier prizes of $100,000. As of the time of this writing, 12 top prizes and 5 second-tier prizes are still up for grabs. The Win Followed a Very Eventful Week The Greensboro win is the first big win for the week that the NC Education Lottery announced. Last week, the lottery had quite a few winners, the biggest of which was a $2 million scratch-off payout. The amazing seven-figure prize was reportedly won by Willie McCluney of Cherryville and came from a $20 Ruby Red 7’s ticket. McCluney’s winning ticket was purchased from Delview Mart on Delview Road in Cherryville. The woman later visited the lottery HQ and opted to receive her winnings as a $1.2 million lump sum and, after required tax withholdings, took home $864,126. Before that, Judith Womack of Broadway won the $674,860 jackpot from the October 17 drawing of the Cash 5 game. She visited the Raleigh lottery HQ on October 20 and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $485,967. Other big wins announced by the NC Education Lottery last week included a $100,000 payout in Pasquotank County and a $167,777 Cash 5 jackpot.
